This project was started the end of March upon receipt of hull drawings and Mylars. Mylars are plotted by computer and have the "shape" of the hull at each of the 33 stations. These "shapes" or curves are traced on plywood and cut to shape to create each station. Once all stations are ready they are installed on a level frame or base. At this stage the upside down hull looks like the skeleton of a prehistoric animal, as you can see in the picture.
Above: After this, the Corecell foam core is installed using a new method which consists of cutting the Corecell in strips about 4" wide. The joints between strips have a round tongue and groove which are chemically bonded with a special "corebond" adhesive. Afterwards, the hull surface gets sanded with long boards to get the foam as smooth as possible before laminating the fiberglass hull laminate with vinylester resit. After applying the outer smooth layer the hull will be turned over to laminate the inside. Once this is accomplished, the hull moves to the production area to begin assembly. We hope you'll check back with us here to follow the creation of this new Cabo Rico 56.
