Updates The Launch Party - August 14, 2003

January 2003 As the New Year commences, work resumes on the new deck mold.
Each Cabo Rico yacht is custom built, and therefore each interior layout can be different. So we have developed a technique to be able to place bosses, or raised portions on an actual deck, anywhere we need them for hatches, etc. These bosses do not have to be placed in the mold. Therefore we can put the non-skid surface in the mold itself. The areas for nonskid have been taped off,
and then the nonskid applied.
Great care must be taken, as the results of this application will be seen on the deck of every new Cabo Rico 56 built.
The advantage to this process, as opposed to the painted non-skid surface we used to apply to each custom deck (as many builders still do), is that the gelcoat surface will last for many, many, years. The painted ones do not.
By the end of the month, pre-wiring and plumbing rough-in well along.
The solid teak and holly sole is in, and cabinetry, bulkhead staving and hull ceilings are going in to place.
Notice how even the sides of lockers and dressers are glassed to the hull.
The beautiful solid teak staving weighs much less than anyone realizes, due to our exclusive technique. The sole will be completely sanded and finished in the boat closer to the yacht's completion.
The cored, vacuum bagged, sub-furniture is quite a contrast to the solid teak.
All cabinetry is screwed and epoxy glued for permanent strength and rigidity.
Even the curving settee in the main saloon is now taking shape.
