November/December 2002 The new Cabo Rico 56 deck mold is born and shes a beauty!
The many months of hand craftsmanship are nearly over, and by January the new mold will be ready to produce its first deck. Still to do are the many finishing touches such as cockpit seat drains, scuppers, hatch bosses, etc. Cabo Rico uses deck hatch bosses, those raised deck portions, that can be moved to new locations depending on the different interior accommodations requested by our owners. This gives us great flexibility, and indeed, the interiors of hulls one and two are quite different. Onboard the hull, the many bulkheads are being glassed into place.
A Cabo Rico is different from many sailboats because every bulkhead, right down to the sides of small lockers, is glassed to the hull and/or deck and/or sub-floor. This helps make your Cabo Rico the strongest and tightest cruising boat going. You never find squeaky floors, doors that wont close on a heel, or a flexing hull or deck in a Cabo Rico yacht. On the CR56, all these bulkheads are vacuum bagged, composite construction, even the sub-furniture! The weight savings are significant and yet the strength is the best.
In another area of the Cabo Rico yard, the plug for the rudder is taking shape.
