November 2002 Things are moving ahead well, with tank installation being completed.
Cabo Rico developed our cabin sole sub floor system, in the late 70s. In the new 56 it is vacuum bagged, cored construction, instead of solid glass, in order to reduce weight and increase stiffness further. Made up in sections, as seen below, these are thoroughly bonded to the glass floor timbers, glass tabbed to them where possible and then fully tabbed all around the hull and structural bulkheads. Later, Cabo Ricos gorgeous solid teak and holly (yes, real, top grade holly) cabin sole is epoxy bonded to the glass sub floor. At 5/16 thick, it provides the beauty and durability of solid wood with out a weight penalty compared with the teak plywood most other builders use. Youll not find any thin veneers on the sole of a Cabo Rico yacht.
The deck mold is coming along nicely too. The plug has received the structural glass that creates the mold, and the molds support framing is being installed.
A very exciting event will take place in our next report, as the deck mold is lifted off of the plug and we get to see the molds surface for the first time!
