Updates

October 2002

During the completion of the hull and its elaborate sub-sole structure, many other activities related to this new flagship have been underway as well.

Cabo Rico’s proprietary tank construction process produces the finest tanks available today. Made of Iso NPG gel coat and vinylester resin, they resist any tendency to impart a taste to the water, and resist growth build-up due to their very smooth interior surface.

They have no welded seams to suffer galvanic corrosion and come apart over time, as can occur with black iron, stainless steel or aluminum.

It is this key attribute that permits us to mold the tanks into shapes that fit below the cabin sole, while maximizing capacity. That is why Cabo Ricos have more tankage onboard than probably any other yacht.

Because all Cabos have internal ballast, there are no keel bolts to worry about and all the space from the longer keel form can be used for tankage. In the unlikely event that some repair must be made, these tanks could be fixed from inside the tank, right inside the boat itself.

The connection between the tank body and the tank top is unique, being fully bonded, mechanically fastened and then fully glassed over. Each is then pressure and vacuum tested for a week, before being installed in the boat.

The fact that these tanks cost more to build and install than our stainless and aluminum tanks, should come as no surprise. At Cabo Rico, we only do things the best way possible.

The Cabo Rico 56 deck plug is nearing completion. This process creates the full and completely detailed deck form as it will appear on the boat itself.

It’s intensive craftsmanship, but oh so worth all the effort!

Supported by a wooden frame, it has been completely created and sculpted by hand using “tooling” gelcoat.

The very comfortable cockpit is big enough for company, or sleeping under the stars, while being safe for off shore sailing.
